What is the Haitian Dollar (HTD)?
The Haitian Dollar has existed since 1912 as an informal unit of account. HTD is a digital receipt for the Haitian Dollar — 1 HTD = 5 HTG, anchored to the convention Haitians have used for over a century.
The Currency That Existed in Mind, Now Formatted for Modern Rails
When Haiti linked the gourde to the US dollar at 5:1 in 1912, ordinary market participants began quoting prices in "Haitian Dollars" to simplify daily calculations. Although no physical Haitian Dollar banknote was ever printed by the central bank, informal trade and pricing across Haiti continue to be carried out in Haitian Dollars to this day.
HTD formalizes this convention: 1 HTD always represents 5 Haitian Gourdes (HTG). By building this standard into smart contracts, buyers and sellers settle in the exact denomination they speak.

How HTD Works in Practice
A frictionless path from diaspora remittance to local vendor settlement.
Buy With Your Phone
Users or diaspora senders deposit funds through standard mobile channels to receive HTD at the native 5:1 gourde conversion.
Send & Settle Instantly
Recipients transfer HTD peer-to-peer or pay participating merchants in seconds via QR code, quoted directly in traditional Haitian Dollars. Free 0% protocol fee keeps velocity high.
Redeem for Cash Anytime
When paper currency is needed, users redeem their balance for physical gourdes at authorized agents. A 3% bridge fee applies on redemption (e.g. redeeming 100 HTD yields 485 HTG; 15 HTG retained to protect the reserve float).

Base Layer 2 Scalability
Native smart contracts live on Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 (Base), delivering transaction costs under $0.001 and finality in under two seconds.
Automated Liquidity Bridge
Automated webhook listeners interface with Digicel MonCash business accounts to verify reserve collateral and execute reliable mobile disbursements.
Gasless Account Abstraction
ERC-4337 paymasters sponsor transactions so regular users never need to hold ETH or manage confusing gas fees to send payments.
